How do I run the VIN # on my 1978 Corvette

I am wanting to sell my 1978 Corvette. I would like to run the Vin # first to make postive sure that everything checks out like it should. I have the car for 15  years myself. Hate to part with it. It is my baby :( but due to health complications and fibromyalgia I can no longer keep it. It is in excellent shape for its age. Only needs work done on the inside. No dings or bends in the exterior at all. Has been garage kept for the past 15 years. So far I have been unable to run the VIN# number I bought the car from a friend of mine so it really didn't matter at the time to me. But I don't want to sell it unless I know all the details about the car

I have the VIN# on my insurance card but everytime I enter it, it says that it is an invalid # because it suppose to have 17 digits. There are only 13 digits since it is a 1978. I know as soon as I post the car for sale people are going to want to know if the parts are original or not. The only way for me to know is to trace back everything. Right now all I know that is original is the Rims, All the interior, the original spare tire, The original T tops and a few other things. I have a smoked tinted top on it right now that I special ordered, I've spent a ton of money on the mechanical part of the car. I'm just trying to find out specifics about the originality of the engine and other specifics by tracing the VIN#
