Question type: Maintenance & Repair

An old vette mechanic tells me there is an additive for diff fluid which eliminates low speed clicking when cornering when diff is warm.He said it used to be made from whale oil and was a common fix and effective. He said there is a modern alternative but did not kn ow the name.Does anyone know?

Pontiac recommended different dif fluids for posi difs so I would expect the same from GM on your Vette dif. Look around standard part stores and I think you will find what you are looking for. I had a similar problem with my Trans Am and the right fluid was the answer.

What you're looking for is called friction modifier. Commonly used in limited slip rear ends to eliminate that clicking sound you describe. Usually comes in a 4 ounce bottle. Add the whole thing.
