my four speed standard is locked in gear how do i fix

1st thing i would do is take off the shifter itself off the top of the transmission and see if you can move the shift forks by hand they should all be even when in neutral and have no slack. it could be as simple as the shifter bushings binding up, could be the clutch itself if its on a hill, or could be the transmissions internals could be miner could be major

Ok I just bought a 76 vett hurrray!!! Ive drove it around for two days went to back up and park it and it got stuck in reverse played around with the shifter and got it unstuck exelent I thought .....put it back in reverse and it has got stuck again f%$&_me I cant get it un stuck what a real m$^%%/f#$%^er. So im going to take apart the console and get into the top of this b$#%&&ch and fix the sob I did not buy a vett just to work on a vett but I guess if you want play you have to pay not just cash but labor I lover the car I just was not expecting it to f%$@@me over so fast any way Ive been working on chevys since I was 13 and I love them f$%^&&a mustang they are junk cheap garbage newer ones not so much but older ones are crap I dont care what anybody says fisher bodys are the best so on with the show my c3 is beutiful cant beat the looks if you want to race just pull up to the line I dont have to go anywhere and Ive allready won take your bmw home your a loser my car just dusted you off and I dont have to do a thing but pull into the parking lot and thats that
