What does it mean when the maintenance required light flashes off and on?

It means that it's become serious and you show have problem repaired. Go to Autozone and they will do a diagnostic for free.

We just got an oil change. It may just need a tune up?

Yes i agree bob you have no idea what you're talking about. Flashing means you are approaching mileage that will need service soon , ie oil change ect.

What if the light flashes after resetting and a clicking noise can be heard from the glove compartment, then the light glows bright again.
