86 Camaro Not Starting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 86 Camaro with a V6 2.8L engine. It was driving fine and is in good
condition. I was driving it recently and when I went to start it up again the
same day, it wouldn't start. The battery turned on but the engine would not
turn over. Any thoughts on what I could do to fix this?

I assuming the car is not cranking correct? if that's the case take a look and make sure you have 12 volts at the battery, check all the connections including the ground. If that OK lets move onto the neutral safety switch, then you can check the ignition module, if they check out OK check any and all fusible links, If that is working check the fuses for the ECM to see if they tripped. Check to see if the starter relay is good. If that checks good if you have a security system you may want to take a loo at that...

A little more info. It is a manuel, and there is no security system. All the fuses look fine.

dose it click or anything when you try to start it? it could be a starter have some one turn the key to crank at the same time hit the side of the starter with a hammer see if it cranks.

Yes it clicks when I turn the key. I will try the hammer thing and give an update when I can.

I tested the starter solenoid and starter motor and it all works fine. We were even able to push start it. But it is still not working. My new thinking is that it's the ignition switch. I tore apart my steering wheel column and tried to find any loose wires or something but it all looked fine. I couldn't however find my ignition switch.

The ignition switch is down the column on the top if you turn the key with your other hand on the column feel for the rod to move it is at the end of the rod also a lot of wires going to it. You might also check the nutrel safety switch
