How many 1987 IROC Z Camaros were made with the 5spd manual transmission?

Asked by Shane Jan 17, 2014 at 09:08 AM about the 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Coupe RWD

Question type: General

I have a 1987 Camaro IROC Z with the 5spd manual transmission and the 305 engine. It also has the G92 performance option and air delete and manual windows and locks, with no tilt. I know it isn't a 1LE, because they came out in 1988. Is my car rare? High Value?

I would sure like to see the build sheet of your car. Do you have it, or the window sticker? Build sheet would be in one of the front springs, or under the rear carpet in the cargo area. email me @ tarheelsballfan@gmail.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Richard

I have camaro iroc z-28 t-top 1987. It is 305tpi engine and manual t5 transsmision. Original red interior and red body. Very well preserved, never crabbed or damaged, heavily garaged and not driven for a long time (more than 15 years). It is a very good condition (4/5). I think that is a very rare and valuable car,but i would like to know that for sure...so if anyyone can help me? Thank you!

Depends on mileage and condition. 4 out 5 to you may be 3 out 5 to someone else. It's not an L98 and red with red int is not that rare. Extremely low mileage 10k-20k mile cars in excellent cond. are selling for much less than they sold new. 87s being 20th anniversaries 92s being 25th anniversaries and the last year and of course convertibles should be best at improving in value along with some earlier Z28 H.O. cars when it comes to 3rd gens.

I have found many red on red 87 iroc z.s i have a hard time finding a red 87 without red interior. Or gray. I have a all original and factory 87 iroc z tpi 5 speed t top car g92 code car red code 81 paint and the deluxe black interior as well as original bose system that came out in 87. Only 7 miles over 60 k actual. I do have most of original build sheets as well all the cars original r.p.o codes. I never seen one just like mine I look all the time.

I'd say your car is very hard to find always been in that combo. Even new it was not easy to go to a local lot and pick up a 87 tpi t top g92 car at all. But people get so into it if they did not make only 100 factory its not rare now. That's b.s over all the years and as well these camaros went to other countries to other than the u.s. most torn up parted junked so yes now they I'd say are rare. I no I have a 87 iroc z tpi t top 5 speed g92 car with the rare one of 901 made with a special rear view mirror and the original nose system first year for that as well your car I think should have a factory 3:42 rear gear like mine not a 308 gear like most all non 5 speed tpi 5 speed cars. So I would keep it if I was you I'd like to see your r.p.o list as well to see all your cars options but I'd keed it. We got a hotter factory cam in are 87 5 speed cars 25 more h.p than a auto lb9 tpi car and only 10 h.p under a factory 87 l98 car. But we got a 5 speed lighter trans as well a great rear end gear. But I love the l98 tpi cars also i got a original 87 black and gold tpi car low miles nice and my 5 speed is more fun and quick. All original car the 5 speed is but aftermarket exhaust and k.n air filters that easy puts me over the 10 stock less h.p than my 87 l98 car

you no exactly whar your talking about all very true. i as well have the rear view mirror option as you aslo. and yep i have the same gear as you also. funny you talk about haveing a 87 l98 black and gold car. in high school my first car was a 87 iroc z t top black and gold car with the iroc sticker delete. had black interior disc rear the cooler had the overhead console the rear shade also rear window cover. in never knew of r.p.o codes then back then it was just a fun iroc to drive and fast for its time makes me sick now to see my old pic.s of it. when i end up with the red 5 speed i got now i was looking hard for another black 87 l98 t top car then a close friend and i was talking one day i told him about my iroc z search and then he told me about his. he told me he ordered his 87 iroc z and did not get it until may of 88. he told me he would sell his. he was a friend and i never seen the car or knew he had it. and been to his house many times.he had 2 garages one i have been in many times the other never. when i seen the car i could tell it was very original the interior nice all original. body floors it all. tires were great tred but starting to crack. he even gave me 3 of the 4 original gaterbacks and they was nice he told me about 20 k into the car he got a blow out so got all new tires. funny thing you say that about the cam its very true 25 more h.p the lb9 autos got the penut cam. i put a aftermarket exhaust on it and just k.n air filters it flys for what it is. to start factory my car was only 10 h.p under same year l98 i had both and even stock i no my g92 87 lb9 was just as fast i bet faster. car needs small odds and ends from age and sitting. i still need to go over it a lot more. but im very happy to see you have a 87 t.p.i t top car and yes id say we had the not common at all irocs in 87 and very true i bet 80 percent like ares are gone or crap not original and beat on. i have no idea how to post pic of my codes on here. but gladly tell u all. what color inside and out is yours? i have looked all over the net a ton never seen one just like it im sure your in the same boat as me. i love all third gen cars v.8 anyways unless its a 89 tta trans am v.6 g.n engine. lol but thanks again for shareing with me about your car. i was shocked my friend even had a iroc since knew. i always seen him in his truck. i asked him why sell now. he told me he enjoyed it in the past more. i can kind of see why he has a beautiful zo6. but anyways looking for all this time for a iroc and he had one. and when he told me the price i got it right away for 3 k. very happy but really will always miss my first 87 l98 car. 87 my opinion was the best year for iroc . was firrsr time a lb9 was with the 5 speed last year of norwood ohio camaros. was first year for the l98 and the verts even tho only 744 was irocs. also 20th year for camaro as well the last year to get a iroc or a base z28 from 88 to 90 was only iroc z no just z28 until 91.and it was also the first year for bose system. also first year you could get lether. 85 to 87 wheels i always did like i mean i like 88 up as well. i was never a fan of the new camaro cluster change from 90 to 92 tho. again i love all v.8 3rd gens but you l98 guys cant put down the g92 5 speeds until your by one. yes you can mod them but factory is factory these cool old cars are the past. yes there is a few easy mods i can do and still look original but i would no. any car that has survived this many years in nice original state. and a very hard car to find it will always stay this way. only bad thing my wife dont no how to drive it and told me to teach her or trade for a auto. lol i am useing my t.v for this looks like i would need to use my cell to figure how to load pictures but thanks again for you reply

if i had it my way i would have a nice heated barn fll it with irocs like the g92 cars both l98 and lb9 cars. a original l69 would b a nice z28. id get some nice tpi trans ams gta.s and formulas. as well as a few ls1 t56 cars. all of us would love a 3rd gen 1le or a players camaro even the rare tta cars and the 3rd gen rare firehawk. lol now thats real cash. but will go up in value just keep up on them. never sell hem i would enjoy them time to time. but do not see the loto wining soon lol if my heath let me some 12 years ago let me be ok i belive i would have a few third gens put back by now but when god tells you ok you done working thats it. just very happy i got mine for 3 k cheep took me around 8 years to save up 4500 extra to buy one so the rest got me a new exhaust and k.n air filters. in 87 g.m had poor paint they had a short recal but did not make it well known long story short in spots the clear is flaked. but still happy i have it. i just hope someday to get a new factory original code 81 bright red paint job on it and the best to factoy decal kit i can find. my father worked on cars since i could walk he was working on teaching me so at the age of 24 the time my illness hit is when life happend. im 36 now. lots of jokes and trash are talked about these cars now. i mean u see 1000 h.p street cars now but thats not the point. its a great filling when your in your old third gen t tops out on a summer night if you grew up when i did or had one you no exactly what im talking about young life was fun and your healthy. at the age of 24 is when i had my black and gold t top l98 car i had when i was 18 in high school. had it 6 great years but was forced to sell it when life happend. that was a hard day. if life did not happen i would have it to this day. but i have seen many times on rooms people proude of what they got and others talk to them like there car is junk or call them stupid because they was wrong on something. life should not be about who.s cars better and put people down we are grown people we never been in others shoes. give people hope try to help them. sorry everyone is reading this but its all true. see it all to often. but gods real im far from a preacher im a normal man with problems myself but everyone that has everything in this life and rude and mean to people remember the next life will not be so great. god is real just remember to help and be nice. it would be easy to crush someones dreams or worse.
