Will a chevy 427 engine in a 1989 Camaro IROC require a lot of mods?

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 1989 Camaro IROC 5.7 and was thinking about a 427 crate engine. Is this swap a
big deal that requires a lot of mods?

should fit in with a little cutting- to clear the headers, etc.- but you will need a new tranny and rear end to match- and more- you are planning high-po and the 89 Camaro is anything but- I like your macho idea-

The car was put together to handle the smaller 350 CI engine and weight. You will need to redo your entire front suspension to handle the heavier weight. The transmission may not fit/bolt up to the motor. It also may not handle the increase of power. The rear suspension and drive line will need beefing up with heavy duty components. Engine mounts and transmission mounts also may not line up. The radiator system will have to be upgraded, smog and other electronic devices need to be addressed. If it's HP you are wanting, you can do a lot with the 350 you have with far less cost. Bore it out, stroke it, new big cam, heads, either larger carberators or good aftermarket EFI. For around $2400 you can get a new transmission and drive shaft that will match the engine and fit. You will or should get a larger radiator also. High flow water pump and upgrade your electric fans. It will not only get more HP than the 427, but rev faster and higher.

If it is a 700r4 it should bolt up and handle it as long as it isnt over the recommended HP even still you could just rebuild it with better gears (just my opinion but I do like 700r4s)
