Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When i was turning my mom's car on it moved forward without me stepping
on the gas. it happened so fast, i wasn't quick enought o step on the brakes
and prevent this tradegy, it crashed on the rear side of my dad's car,
furtunately there wasn't anyone standing in front of me or he would've been
squished. My dads car was fine it didn't have any scratches or anything but
my mom's cat got her bumper chipped and it has a crack that's about 1.5 cm,
it's hood and headlight protector got damaged and it has a near the headlight
and the body. when i went to the repair shop they asked me for $2500, i
litterally feel like they're trying to swindle me. I mean that much for just minor
damages? The engine was working fine and the lights all work and there's
nothing really wrong with it other than the bumper and the other damages,
and they confirmed it they said there wasn't any other damages.

1. Is it really that much? I don't have work right now and i'm broke i can't pay
that much.

2. Is it covered by my insurance?

here's a photo, please take a look at it for reference

Get second hand parts at junk yard storage or shop online for cheap replacement part and have it painted.. same thing happened to me. I paid 150.00 compared to 1,959 estimate at shop.

You have enough advice here to help with the repairs, but you need to know why the car lunged forward. Is this a standard transmission, and did you turn the key without holding the clutch in? That will explain what happened, if so. If not, there is something important that needs to be reported to someone. A car should not do what you described upon "turning on". Good luck!

That price honestly is not that far out of line, especially if replacing a hood, fender, grille and headlight assembly. Even if the new body panels come painted the same factory color as car they won't be a perfect match (even a light shade off is noticeable), and most shops will want to paint car to ensure all body panels match color. You might as well 'fess up!

At the price of parts ,primer , fillers ,clear coat and labor at 85 dollars per hour It sound about right to me .So I wouldn't do it again Chalk it up to a lesson learned from the school of hard knocks and don't do it again
