ballade 98 model luxline 1800 check engine light

Afternoon guy a friend of mine has a ballade 98
model luxline 1800 the check engine light keeps
coming on and off and the car sound like its got a
mis fire when that happens what can be the
problem

The check engine light came on so there will be a code stored in the main computer, I would first have the car scanned for any possible codes and us this as my stsrting point. Misfire can be caused by a simple vacuum leak, but it can also be caused by dirty fuel injectors, a weak fuel pump (low fuel pressure) or a faulty fuel pressure regulator. It can also be caused my ignition misfire due to worn or fouled spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, or weak ignition coil.
