Fuel tank float and fuel systems issue in a 1999 Mercedes C280

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had a small pinhole in the fuel line.
When replaced the fuel line, the car
still wasn't recieving fuel. We
replaced the fuel filter and tested the
fuel pump. The engine still wasn't
recieving fuel. As a last ditch effort,
we put a gallon of gas in the vehicle,
even though the gauge was reading
a 1/4 tank of gas. After adding just
one gallon of gas, the car started
right up. Making me think that the
float in the fuel tank had gotten
stuck, especially since I had noticed
a few occasions where the gas
gauge was erratic. Today after fixing
all of that, the car is still acting
erratic. I hit the gas pedal and the
RPM's went to almost 6000 without
any real acceleration. I stopped and
tapped the fuel tank and the issue
resolved itself. Does all this sound
like a faulty fuel tank float or sending
unit?

Sound,s like the fuel filter sock in tank, may be stopped up,not letting fuel go threw to easy, all so im not sure of your model, but check it for and inline fuel filter all so.

It's a 1999 C280. The fuel filter sock?? Is that the same thing as a the fuel filter float? We have already replaced the fuel filter, so that is a non-issue.
