Maybe the float was damaged when it was re-installed.

Do I have to take rank off again?

This is why I always replace the fuel pump and sending unit at the same time .Learned this lessen through the school of Hard Knocks !! I've found the easiest way to change fuel pumps & sending units on Ford Rangers and Mazda pick-up is to take the bed off or lift the bed up .
