Engine rebuild or crate

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just picked up a 64 galaxie 500 xl convertible. This
will be a daily driver for me come summer. The 390
runs strong but needs some work. I've had a few
local guys suggest dropping in a 302 crate. Any
suggestions?? Rebuild 390 or drop in the 302
crate?

I'd personally rebuild the 390. That keeps the car with the original engine and helps to maintain it's value.

Totally agree with these guys. Keep the original motor. Like they said, it would keep the value of the car.

Rebuild it! You will devalue your car considerably buy swapping the motor out. If you want more power you can do a few internal mods that will leave the engine looking stock yet gain a good bit of HP.

BTW - Nice Car! All you need is a set of original wheels and hub caps you would have a show winner.
