Truck won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado Z71 1500 5.3. Was
driving down the road the other day & all my dials
went dead, gas gauge went to E, everything shut
off. Lost all steering on the road barley made it out.
Friend came to the rescue, we tried jumping it but
right when we took the cables off the truck would
die. (Yes, you'd automatically think alternator) so
we decided to try a battery swap right there in the
road, it worked. He drove me to work in my own
truck took it back to his house & put it on the
battery charger. I took my break a few hours later &
picked up my truck started just fine. (With my
battery). Get home later that night & the next
morning it wouldn't start. Not even with the jumper
box or with cables hooked to another car. So took
the alternator off & had it tested at 2 places 3/4
good, 2/4 good. So I bought a new one. Put it on
and had to jump the truck but it stayed running,
once again got home from work that night then the
following morning the truck started fine at -1°. Paid
bills came home to get ready for work and when I
went to leave it wouldn't start. Battery charger
reads it only has 2%.

I'm so confused, please help.

sounds like you have a dead short some where dose it have a aftermarket stereo in it or is it all still stock or factoy

It may be that the battery is shorted out internally. I would get it checked under a load test at a battery shop or parts store. If the battery is bad like this it will cause damage to the alternator.
