Identifying engine year model

The engine will have a alphanumeric casting number on the passenger side (right side) of the block, under the heads. The first letter of the code identifies the decade (C=1960s, D=1970s, E=1980s), the second digit in the code identifies the specific year. A 1973 motor for instance would be D3, as an example.
I am pretty sure your year truck did come with a 351 which was a common engine back then.
So the alphanumeric casting # is E4AE-6015-FA-20 so the motor is from 1984? How do I find out what it came out of? The person that bought the truck from Can’t really remember says you did it 15 years ago and he does see quite a few vehicles every day But his story other than the year of the motor claims it came from an E250 and it’s been pretty consistent just not the year I’d like to confirm so when I’m doing starters and flywheels I know what parts To get
E4 = 1984, but AE indicates a full size sedan, not truck or van (most likely a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis), but Ford did share engines across lines. Try finding the stamped serial number in the top of the top rear of the block, that will contain a partial VIN of the vehicle it came out of of, that will help you figure out if it came from a van or not.
