Car stalling and misfiring randomly

Asked by Popejoy74 Nov 24, 2018 at 02:26 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 02 vw jetta 2.0. it started
intermittently stalling at an idle tand then the
mil light would come on and then it would go
back off after about three starts. I thought
maybe it’s the throttle body needing to b
cleaned. Then yesterday I went to drive it to
the store and the mil started blinking and the
car was running rough. So I took it right
home and then the light stopped blinking but
stayed on. I figured it was a misfire but I am
not sure and idk if the coil could b going out
and so it works and then not. And would this
make the car die.

My Dad had a 2001 VW Golf and there was a recall on the ignition coil and yours would probably be the same deal. Have it scanned for codes and if it really is the ignition coil take it to the dealer for recall work (free). If it's not covered, take it somewhere else. Dealer are crooks and they may charge you for the work and still bill VW as a recall job..."double dipping". Happens all the time. Try another VW dealer. But Yes, I think you are on the right track about a bad coil and it may need spark plugs too. Good Luck.
