Best car under $3000 for east coast winters and city driving?

I live in NYC and am seeking a reliable car (a beater of course) that's low on
maintenance but can handle snow and ice. A wagon or hatchback a plus,
but not necessary. Either auto or manual. I've owned many cars but not on
the east coast, and not in many years, either.

I've been doing research but am a little overwhelmed. Any advice
appreciated.

Also, I'm totally aware that this car will be a beater car but I need something that will last me at least 2 years without major issues.
