Title trade in issues

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I'm trying to buy a new car through carvana and
use my current car as a trade in. Problem is the
title of my current car is in my name AND my
mother's.  Carvana is telling me my mother needs
to be present to trade in the vehicle and the only
other option is to get the title changed which would
require refinancing. My mother is unable to be
present and I'm not going through a refinancing
process just to trade in the vehicle next week.
Surely there's another option involving my mom
signing something and having it notarized or
something along those lines?

Hard to say each state has its own set of rules. You can always call around (dmv might able to assist you.) Good luck

A "power of attorney" for you and your mother will allow you to sign or act on your mother's behalf as far as the title transfer is concerned. Most state's title bureau web sites have a POA form you can download. After filling it out it does need to be notarized, which you can likely do at your bank for free. (Some notaries will come to your home, but that would involve a fee.) Visit your state's DMV web site to figure out what's involved in getting a POA for your mother. That you should be able to conduct your trade in business without dragging your mother along.
