mileage

Asked by HumbleCarSeeker May 13, 2018 at 07:31 PM

Question type: General

I see ads for, say, a 1980 vehicle with 140 mileage, implying total miles on the
odometer.  Other ads, the mileage, e.g., 35,000 seems possible.  Several
private car sellers will claim extremely low mileage, which must be incorrect.
Something I'm not understanding or seeing correctly?

Most old cars for sale that say for example - 20,000 miles are actually 120,000 or 220,000. Unless the odometer has 7 digits the mileage claims should be regarded with suspicion unless they have full documentation going back to the purchase date.

This is why you should check the carfax history on each vehicle your interested in if it's available.
