97 Ford Explorer motor swap

I have a 97 Ford Explorer 2wd 4.0 SOHC
that needs a new motor. Will a 4wd 4.0
SOHC work in its place?

Yes, the engines are the same for 2 wheel drive and four wheel drive, the transfer case is what makes the difference. My 1997 4X4 and 1999 2 wheel drive have the 4.0 engine.
