Can I trade in current car if value higher that car i want

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

My Subaru Forrester is  $23,000. I want a Toyota FJ
cruiser that is listed at $18,000. How do I make a
trade in work.

They will only give you wholesale price for your car and still want retail for the Toyota, so you'll be lucky if you don't windup paying them so money out of pocket. Your best bet is too sell your Subaru yourself for cash then make a cash offer on the Toyota. Remember Toyota quit making the FJ, so it is actually an obsolete vehicle.


Yeah, sell the Subaru yourself, then use the money to buy the FJ. If you try to trade it in for a lower-cost vehicle you will just get seriously hosed.
