Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 dodge Dakota 3.7 4 by 4. Starts fine then
stalls when you put it into gear. Will stall at red light
and stop signs. Ran code came up p0740. Torque
converter clutch out of range. Could it be the relay?
No check engine light on or any other lights.

It's basically "locking up" the TC (torque converter) which is putting too much load on the engine at lower RPMs. Can be due to dirty tranny fluid, a bad TC clutch solenoid and/or circuit/valve body. Is there a relay as part of that circuit? If so by all means try swapping it out. Could also be a sticking solenoid if dirty. Try servicing it and hopefully it's just a solenoid, but worst case scenario it's a bad clutch pack.
