Follow the serpentine belt to all the pulleys, one of them is the power steering pump. You should see a power steering reservoir with a cap with yellow lettering on it near that. BTW is you are low on PS fluid, you should be hearing a lot of noise from it, like groaning, especially when wheels are cut over all the way. If NO noise, you might have another problem with steering or suspension. So check/fill the PS fluid, then if problem persists get it in somewhere to check out undercarriage.

My info says you have electronic power steering not hydraulic. No fluid. Check applicable trouble codes? Some makes and models, the power steering may lessen, in certain situations, trying to keep the steering motor from over heating.

I have a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 4.6L V8, i drive for work a lot, the other week i am going down the highway at about 70mph and start to switch lanes ( turning slightly to the left) on a left turning curve, all of a sudden my steering whell breaks over slightly and i hear a intermitent grinding noise.
