4EAT transmission, No reverse ("clunks in, but won't move), won't shift into 4th.

Sounds like it's replacement or rebuild time on the transmission. If you want to spend the time and expense to change the fluid to see if that helps, it might be worth a shot before spending more money. On a '92 Subaru I would think twice before spending big money on it unless you really like it and want to keep it for a few more years.

A rebuilt transmission will cost a lot more than the car is worth so only do this if you plan on keeping the car for a long time so that you get your moneys worth out of it.
