Yes, I would stay away from both. What is your budget? I might be able to suggest one.

I'm not rich but still want a Foreign car. Max 13,000 no my pockets are not that deep. I do have some mechanical experience. I was hoping to cut pack on maintenance cost that way.

If you only have 13 grand you can not afford a used Jag. The maintenance and repair on an older Jag will eat your lunch, so will BMW, Mercedes and Porsche. Saab is gone and out of business so parts will become an issue. Foreign vehicles take many expensive special tools to do certain repairs on them. Why not try a nice dependable Toyota, Honda, Acura, Lexus or similar. You have champagne tastes and a beer pocket book.

Thanks for the real talk

You might be able to pick up a BMW E46 1998-2005 for around $5K and put another $5K into it. Plenty of DIY's online and parts aren't too expensive. Check out the bimmerfest Wiki for the BMW e46.
