Engine surges when driving

I have a 2003 Subaru Baja when
driving surges engine speeds up
slows down causing jerky ride.
What could be the cause?

Have your timing belt looked at. Could be because of improper or slipping timing belt.

Try a tune up, clean some filters, computer likely can't determine proper air-fuel mix.

Like Ken says - tune it up. I would also use a good fuel system cleaner like Techron.
