my 1986 mazda b2000 is hard to start and quit on me the other day. it was not the fuel pump, what could it be?

1986 mazda b2000 is hard to start. i thought it was the fuel pump but it was not,
turns out someone had siphoned all my gas. since then i have not been able to
get it started.

i would appreciate any help on this, i have tried adding gas to carb and starter fluid it will run a few seconds then quit. will not hit unless i give it gas in carb. could i have got some bad gas , gas with water in it?

it was the fuel pump i replaced it and it is running good.
