Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 Ford Explorer won't start. I put a new
battery in and it still won't start. It won't even crank
the starter it's just dead. Any ideas. All the lights are
on and working

Does it make any relay clicking noise when you try starting. Perhaps the ford has a start relay, not in the starter check that. And fuses. Make sure the transmission is in the correct position like Park to start.

It clicks once. Then nothing. Checked all the fuses and they are all good. Tried to start it in park as well as neutral. It didn't make a difference. Read somewhere about the neutral safety switch. Any thoughts on that?

Did you try lightly tapping on the starter its self with a piece of wood. Could be starter brushes.
