2001 Volkswagen jetta

Hi I have a 2001volkswagon jetta at times it starts
up and runs great there's times it will not start at all  
unless I spray either in it to start but after its
started n runs for a little it will start but when was
cold out had to do it every time now its warm out
don't what's wrong ?
