Probably having the proper testing equipment, and the tools to rebuild it yourself. You can never compare to a brand new OEM alternator, more money verses a rebuilt tho. Rebuilt alternators can last a long time, most do, some don't. So as far as rebuilding a alternator yourself, you would not be sure if it works right, and your time verses buying a rebuilt alternator that has ben tested, better off just buying a rebuilt if you want to go that rout.

Of course the Pro is that you save money and the con is if it dosen't work than you will do the job twice (or more) then probably buy a rebuilt one anyway

The amount of current that flows threw your circuits is protected by the fuses. The amount of current depends one the call for the juice you need. If you have a big draw like a big stereo, or lots of lights to cause a big draw on the system, and everything is on at the same time, then the wiring system could heat up, which then should have bigger wiring to the accessories. Normal operation and having a bigger output alternator, there is not enough draw to heat up the wires. The voltage regulator takes care of the rest. I see no problem putting in a 130 AMP alternator.
