2012 Toyota Tundra shudders
There may be a broken motor mount or transmission mount, also check the drive shaft for a bad u-joint.
I did check the motor mount I have not check the trans mounts. I did have it checked today they had the truck for over 6 hours. They called me about half way though the day and said it passed the computer test it shifted fine. But they did a pressure test and found the torque converter was bad. Would that not have shown up on the computer test?
No it wouldn't. The torque converter very well could be the problem.
This seems to be a common problem with Toyota's. One post I read on another forum by a person claiming to be a Toyota tech. This is a re-post of his answer ---- I've been a Toyota tech for 4 years, about to be a master diagnostic tech. Those who said the torque converter were spot on. You could be low on fluid but it's doubtful. A few drain and fill cycles may help, but ultimately it sounds like you need a new T/C. You can prove this by pulling the pin for the lock up solenoid out of the transmission plug and taping the end up. After you carefully pull the pin, if you drive it and the condition ceases, you have your answer. (You'll get a check engine lamp because the ecm won't see the solenoid, but it's a sure fire diagnostic method.) I can look later and tell you which pin/wire color it is; I'll edit my post. The newer transmissions have what's called "flex lock up" and it starts around 25-30 mph with light throttle application. EDIT: The lock up solenoid uses pins 13 and 5 in the transmission connector. Pin 13 is a red wire with black tracer, pin 5 is a red wire with white tracer. The two wires are nearly across from each other in the connector. You can use either one.
This problem may be the Flex Lock-up shudder. This TSB number might help you -- TC018R-07

F_O_R thank you for all the help. I am not a car mechanic just a guy try to fix my truck the least amount of money possible. I looked at the web site you posted to me. I am not a NASTF, that it say I have to be. Is the a recall for 2WD truck. The company that looked my truck told me it would cost 4500.00. They said I need to rebuild the trans also.
I would get another opinion from another shop. Check around as good, reputable transmission shops are few and far between. The NASTF requirement is for a security subscription. Just do the standard 2 day if you just want to research this one issue.
How hard is it to replace a torque converter and would you think the trans need to be rebuilt?
