How many miles on the engine? Condition? It may need a compression and leak-down test, if it has a lot of miles on it, if it loses power like this under load. If it's whipped and lacks compression, it will need to be rebuilt. All you can do short of that is check fuel pressure and timing and give it a tune up so you know it has good spark.

Mark your answer was helpful. I was thinking it may be the distributor stator, but the engine doesn't run hot. what do you think?
