How many catalytic converters are in a lincoln town car

Muffler shop charged per converter and said they
replaced 6. I didnt think they had 6.

You have one three-way converter on each side, so a total of two converters. Look over your invoice and see just what they replaced.

Ken, we don't even know what year this Towncar is. If it is recent it has 2 actual converters on each side that are part of 2 assemblies.

I see it listed only as a 1-piece assembly, it might break down into front and rear... on older Town Cars it's a single 3-way converter per side. The diagram below is for up to 2010 I don't have anything newer than that, can't imagine OPs car is this new with converter problems, I'll try and post a 90's era diagram. Still for OP they need to review their invoice and see just what was replaced.

There are likely 4 individual cats that could be replaced 1 at a time by using universal parts and welding them in. Of course a proper repair would be buying the proper assembly and installing it by bolting it in.

I have a 99 Lincoln town car and was just under it and it has two catalytic converters two mufflers duel exhaust
