What would you recommend as an American alternative to a BMW Xdrive 328i?

I currently have a 2009 BMW Xdrive 328i and would like to consider an American alternative to that car as a replacement.

Either new or used late model. Those cars are way big,but if there's nothing the size of the BMW 3 series then maybe I have to move up.
