Thinking of buying a 99 F-350 SD XL with 116,268 miles with the V-10? Can I expect reliability or engine problems?

Good engine, quite reliable, but pretty thirsty and expensive to repair/service because of the complexity of a V10. Just more parts involved. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1014181-how-reliable-is-the- v10.html

The V-10 is a good engine. The weak point is they tend to break exhaust bolts. It's a expensive job to replace them. If you can find a 7.3 diesel engine in a 1999.5 and above you're going to be a lot happier. The 1999.5 was manufactured after Dec. 24, 1999. What ever you do keep away from the 6.0 Ford diesel. Bad news.

I had a 1999.5 F350 with a 7.3. No catalytic converter, and I could use waist oil as a fuel. I also had the ECU reprogrammed to increase the HP to 325. I sold it when I retired to the Philippines. I miss that truck more than some of my relatives.

I appreciate the good advice. Will keep shopping around, sometimes a great price is hard to pass up though!

Yeah. I bought my F350 for $4500.00 and sold it for $6350.00 a year later a with 424,000 miles on it. Keep looking for the right truck. Good luck.
