Question type: General

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I responded to a dealer advertisement on here and saved a
copy he is saying he doesn't advertise with car gurus. Is
there anyway to prove that listings are placed by
dealerships directly?

Click the feedback button in the lower right to get a more
detailed answer. But I know cargurus copies ads from
other sources, so the dealership you contacted is probably
right. I'm confused though, whyt does it matter to you if
they advertise here or not, it's all about finding the car you
want.

Disclaimer: The following are only observations thus far
after using your site It matters to me because I have the
listing emailed by car gurus with a 16995 number. The
dealer on his own website has only placed ads for this car
for 18995. But it would be an easy way for dealers to
hypothetically advertise, not be accountable, and get to
complain about cargurus as a cover-up. Hypothetically
speaking of course, because if this was proven this would
fall under bait and switch. But some valid questions come
to mind even if by your answer car gurus pulls from other
ads but no other ads list this price how would this be
possible? I tried to list this same car but this site would
not let me because it said the vin had already been listed,
so that would point towards someone having to setup an
account to post the price, not pulling ads from other
sources. So my question to you is again what is your
process for dealers posting ads on your site? The price
you posted was never on any website that could have
been pulled, and when the dealer was contacted he says
he doesn't advertise with you. So where did the price
come from? YOUR direct statement only confuses this
even more…. Tom answered 3 weeks ago Only based on
listed price in the ad. You have to work with the seller
directly to get your best deal. http://www.cargurus.com/

questions is how un-bias can this site be?? Again would
love to know your process for dealers.

WHAT exactly is your point? That long rambling essay has absolutely nothing to do with THIS forum. We try to help people with car trouble. We do our best. We do it free. Mechanical Q & A. Tom did his best to answer you, under no obligation to do so. Take it up with the Dealer, and YES the practice Bait and Switch everyday, claiming typos or "that one sold".

David, My family has owned 3 dealerships an auto rental company and I have been around car guys my entire life so i'm well aware of bait and switch and how much it is used. My point is there is a thin line between getting someone on the lot....and breaking the law. Any website that participates with the knowledge of what one or more dealerships is just as guilty in my opinion. IF a website claiming to be for the consumer is doing this that is beyond the normal BS one should have to go through just to buy a car. Granted this may happen everyday, but maybe it keeps happening because nobody takes the time to stop it. So, if this makes one person stop and think before spending thousands of dollars on a purchase based on the assumption that "consumer websites" are only for consumers, mission accomplished. I would post specifics but am at the last stage with the dealership directly to see if they will remedy, before going to court. Just because you a part of the masses that roll over doesn't mean everyone else is.

Point taken. But all I'm trying to get across is the people here, on this forum, have no stake in or control over the CarGuru's Admin. You address us as "your site"..but it's not. Chances are The CG will never see this, they don't moderate, only when somebody is flagged. And don't go there with the personal crap. I don't 'roll over' or take shit from anybody.

It's just about getting to the store and back safely...ANY car in normal running condition will do this for you~ we often lose sight of something this elemental~ Horsies do not need oil changes~

Dealers do not place ads with CG. The prices are pulled from 3rd party providers.

Today, the same jeep that I found on Craig's list for sale by private owner is the exact same jeep that is for sale at a Margate car lot by CarGuru. (Same photo's on both ) How am I supposed to trust someone?
