What is a good first car to start off with? and i have a budget of about $7000 and i want to hook it up [prefferable a tuner car]?

i suggest not going with the mainstream here. dont buy a honda. everybody has one. a cool car that is rare but available at that price if you look for it is a mazdaspeed protege. car is reliable and already has a turbo that with money saved up can be upgraded. handles very nice also. and it has a nice stock sound system.

nice choice chase! or how bout a vw golf gti ( not the 115hp) but the turboo version? for bout 7 you could deck it on some deep dish? their reliable and quick and go for miles

im not sure about the vw for a choice as a first car. they tend to have an extremely large problem with electronics. jsut my personal experience though.

true but thats only with the stock ecu`s once thats been uprated their fine its then just general maintanance and their built like tanks( known from a personal head on experiance)

wow, i never considered that as a option, i was leaning more twords a 240 sx but the mazda will def. be in my consideration now.

i have a vw and i love mk3 jetta. has has electrical problems but its all EASY little stuff. Id go for a jetta. there is a lot you can do to them to make them fast. the 1.8T isnt bad. or just buy an old jetta and put a vr6 engine in it. thats what im doing =] total sleeper

i think audi A3 2dr '02 is a good car too i think with 7000$ u 'll get the 1.8 T which is not bad and normaly u won't have problems modifiying the car or u can go for a BMW (E46) 330 i

its his first car. the maintenance on those german cars is ridiculous in comparison to a jap or american car.

which is and i know you dont like hondas chase but all the parts are easy to get hold of they require very low maintanance and the whole car can be dissmantaled with a 10-12 inch socket!

I don't know much about how things goes in the US but I'm quite certain the 240sx's maintenance cost won't be too high. My advice : don't tune or mod your car yet, drive it until you grasp the basic ideas, then try to push it to the limit (safety first) when you explored the car's limit, it's time when you start modding

if you want to build a tuner car thats fine. theres a lot of them out there. why not make a tuner thats also a sleeper? look for a car thats cheap, reliable, and cheap on parts. ,

Invest the money somewhere, get more money and buy a better car. But with that budget I'd say a Mitsubishi Eclipse Talon series isnt too bad. Its a pretty mainstream car so parts are readily available. The car's really light in its stock form so that's pretty neat.

its not bad, a friend of mine had one with a turbo.he suped it up and turned it into a sleeper. it was faster then a 911. then he blew the engine with a full charge from the turbo. theyre good cars but be careful.

The head gaskets in those cars are notorious for failing at 100k miles.
