Speeding a Question for anyone who is a cop or wants to join in....

Question type: General

So i got a ticket today...  speeding...   but i figured no way...    when the officer came to the car and asked for my lisence registration and insurance i figured no big deal   hees just checking stuff out...   comes back and gives me a ticket for doing 121kph in a 110 zone...   11 km/h fast...   WHAT? ??     he lasered me at the bottom of a hill  (conditions were optimal although it was into the evening)   I was following 2 semi trucks (one was passing the other) and had my cruise set for about 120kph (ill admit...)   i had to apply the brakes for the semi at the top of the hill and just kinda coasted down...    so my big question....

Does anyone here who is or was an officer think that 121kph is  "An unacceptable rate of speed which is dangerous to others on the road." given that it was a 6 lane divided highway ? (3 lanes each way divided by a sizeable ditch...)

Like really?
In todays world should cars which preform as they do should we still be governed by laws made in the forties and fifties ???

Stopping code says a passenger vehicle must stop from 60mph(102kph...) in 260ft

My car will stop in roughly 123ft...

the average car sold in canada will stop in 151ft...

How many times has the 5 star crash saftey rating system been updated>????
When the 1996 ford mustang GT was built in 96 it had a class leading 4 star crash rating
today its is just barley a 3 star ...
my car in 1980 would have been a full 5 star...

Also in Alberta it is a law that on all major highways all vehicles must slow down to 60kph while passing a emergency vehicle...

I would have to guess that less than 10% of the people that passed me while i was pulled over did so...   some did not slow down at all...     Why doesnt the officer go after them and smack them with a 50Km/h over the limit ticket and let me keep my tuition money???

For Americans on the board, this is roughly going 77 in a 70 (~6.9mph over limit in a 68.8)

Alex, as an "unwritten rule," at least in most American States, 5-9 mph over posted speed limit is a "gimme!" You get a pass 95% of the time. Cops generally reserve citations for a minimum of 10-15 mph over posted limit. You ran into a cop that needed to meet his ticket quota and you were driving a Mustang. You got profiled! Had it been an Accord, Camry, Caddilac or ANYTHING other than a MUSCLE CAR, you'd gotten a pass.

first off i dont kno about up in canada but in most states there is no such thing as a ticket quota . . urban myth as for the the getiign a ticket alot of us dont go by the exact letter of the law . . its mainly jugment calls again in the states but two trucks, downhill, 7 over . . coulda gone both ways i would have to have been there also an officer is never going to abandon a traffic stop to go chase another speeder, only for something along the lines of a felony stop

3,910

No ticket quota? I suppose that's why you're more apt to be ticketed at the beginning of the month, (to get a jump on the quota!) Near mid-month, (to get the quota within reach!) and finally at the end of the month; (to get the required amount.) You are less apt to get a ticket between 8th-13th and 22nd-25th of the month. Each munincipality knows EXACTLY how much of their budget and payroll is facilitated by traffic violations and the associated court costs. Which in turn is divided equally by the number of traffic patrol officers empowered with ticket books. NOT AN URBAN LEGEND!

actually i just asked all my coworkers and even the chief nvr heard of one besides coming from the punks that whine that they werent doing anything wrong

Ticket quota may be an urban Myth... But officers who bring in more money always look better when it comes time for promotions and Gimmies... Generally the unwritten rule is 10 over and then they'll Nik you, as most spedometers have somewhere around a 10 km/h descrepancy. after that, you're fair game. That said... I got a 9 over ticket once... ;)

I always believed there was an unwritten law too... But Texas writes tickets for anything over 5 mph... I got a ticket for 7 over just outside of Houston a couple years back driving a full size travel van...

Interesting! And it's defended by candy asses cops that hide behind a badge and gun because it makes them big and bad! If you want to impress me, go military where the other guy has the equal right to kick your ass or take your life! I did my 20 years with two combat infantry tours with 101st ABN. You can kiss my ass! You are the punk! And..you should read "The BOOK!" it was written by a retired state trooper that explained in detail how the cop and ticket scams works.

I also Live in Alberta, I've gotten a few speeding tickets but i have been always at least 20km/h over. I've never been ticketed when i'm 125km/h and below (with limit of 110km/h). Ticket quotas don't officialy exist, but it's an unwritten rule for cops to get some many ticks in the run of a 30 day period or they may come under review for not 'stopping' people/writting enought tickets. As for the rule about going 60km/h, it's only in the lane immediately next to the one your in or next to, so if your on the sholder and there are 3 lanes, 2 of the 3 lanes can maintain speed, the one next to the sholder has to slow down to 60km/h. here in calgary with the large increase in traffic accidents the last few months, i suspect the police are cracking down on everyone - i drive 30 to 40 km each way to work at 110 to 115km/h and cops don't seem to mind. i don't know, i may be just pushing it a bit!

the dhief refers to the e7 adn i dont gove a damn about impressin u so f**** off

It could be worse... http://www.orlandoforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126522 Note the forum he posted in... LOL

2,735

I think its bs up here... we generally take the rule of 10% more than the speed limit is safe... im pissed he didnt go after the semis if my speed was unsafe what does that say for him... quota day up here is the 17th of every month... so i didnt think that was it but i dunno ...

2,735

this was on the #2 going north just before it seperates into Deer Foot and Mcleod trail... just by that hill where its 3 lanes before the overpass there... im pretty pissed ive always felt safe from the law and safe at about 120-125kph... The conditions were prime no snow or ice on roads... im concerned with it really because dont we hear about the gang related violence every day here... why dont they do something about that rather than hide behind a bush catching anyone just trying to get home... its too bad i was following a guy doing about 130 all the way from Nanton who turned off about 3 mins before this happened... but i backed it off when he left knowing that i was getting close to the city... im still blown away by it...

2,735

lol did you read that whole forum thats hilarious kid admits to something stupider and the cop is on the forum ahahahahahahaha

2,735

This still seems ridiculious to me... im debating fighting it on the basis that i had my cruise control set to a lower speed i may plea guilty to 115km/h i have had spedo trouble in the past and i may now too.. im gonna get it retested when i get the chance... the ticket is only 129$ which feels steep but i might fight it on principal... what do people think about upping the speed limit on highways??? good idea ? i really dont think that 150kph is really out of the question here... or should it be that we require more driver training like they do in germany and finland??? then we can up the limits... personally i think there should be a law somewhere that says on a highway when not near any other traffic there should be a higher speed limit when you come up to people which you are going to pass you slow down pass them then resume speed or something like that... thoughts ???

1,935

What Principle? you were speeding, you've admitted that clearly and openly. The officer had every right to ticket you. I highly doubt the cruise control defence is a good idea... the court will likely just tell you to learn how to control your vehicle more cautiously. I'd like higher limits myself... hell the limit on the 401 is 100 but the average speed is 130, on a good day you can get booting along at 150. but with the new 50 over law thats pushing it... good thing theres a speed of traffic law to keep one kinda safe lol. as for the "Near other traffic" bit... it's too vague... define "near" it's one of those things, there are too many idiots with cars that wouldn't be able to handle it responsibly... Driver training would be good if there actually were such a thing... I don't know what you've got in alberta, but here in ontario we have a young driver's program, and the flatly refuse to teach manual transmission... I don't think they actively teach emergency proceedure and stopping, it's all from a book IF at all... they only teach basic road training, and I find most of my friends who took it, can't even back up... so I think the program is a joke...

35

i wasnt "called out" on the quota first off . . . i dont think ur understanding me its not a cop its military security personel and its a big difference . . thnx and i really dont need anything to feel more like a man considering im more of one than u . . and coming from a guy that drives a POS honda who gets tickets for distubing the peace with ur fart can trying to sound like a car with real displacement doesnt mean a whole lot bro give it up already

35

btw till u get ur facts straight and ur panties out of a bunch dont bother replying

35

ur dumber than i thought its navy and im overseas at the moment lucky for u ground punders are all the same all talk all shit all the time no work whatso ever btw ill take a ranger on anytime last tome it was a bad day for the little fool so u keep running your mouth cuz thats what u seem to do best btw look up SWCC then tell me ive nvr seen combat u little shit

3,910

You thought?..That's interesting! You capable of rational thinking? Careful, you'll get a nose bleed! It's clear you can't walk and chew bubble gum at the same time! YOU PUTZ! I wish you'd make up your feeble mind? Last posting you were Security Police..aka, USAF. NOW you're NAVY when everyone KNOWS Navy security is handled by the USMC?? "If" you are Navy, your lazy ass is on an air conditioned ship watching cable; unless, you're Fleet Marine, (like my daughter) and deployed. And NO! You've not seen combat! How many buildings have you cleared, bunkers taken out, firefights you've survived. Unless you're a SEAL..( I know, Next POSTING!) You've not seen REAL COMBAT. And had your candy ass even looked at any RANGER wrong..you'd be wearing your ass as a hat! If you were genuinely such a bad ass, you would try so hard to prove it! You have a turbocharged mouth; certainly a LEGEND in your own MIND. Be careful, I'll have my daughter beat your ass! Lol!

1,935

it's good to know WHATEVER branches of respective military you two Yanks hail from, you've got nothing better to do than fight eachother... on a message board no less... on the internet... how does it go? "Arguing on a message board is like winning the special olympics... Sure you won the medal... but you're still retarded in the end..." and what is this military need to go after the size of another Man's Penis!?

16,725

lol, you know you just painted a target on your chest right? And hey we can fight people other than ourselves... Like third world countries that we've been bankrupting with economic sanctions... Those guys piss us off... (Sarcasm... I know the British told us they had WMD, supposedly, and that we are justified being there...) *sets down paint brush* There now we both have targets on us.

1,935

no no no Adam... if I wanted to paint a target, I'd go for the gold and mention how the Yanks don't invite the Canuck airforce to thier training excercises anymore becuase they don't like being out flown by planes that are 10 years older and half as maneuverable ;) but I'll save that one... ;) lol

2,735

HAHA BEYAHHHH HAHA... seriously ill paint a target on me too... Im all for respecting vets and come from a long line of men fighting for their country... But this whole lets fight ourselves because we dont have anything else to fight about is retarded... i asked in this forum if laws should be changed so we can get places faster not which branch of the us military is more badass...

2,735

yeah we have shit all here too... i looked into it and in germany you can take an emergency situation course a high speed driving course a performance road driving course (sweet) and a couple other ones as well... all of which contribute to your insurance rates going down... Thats what we should be doing... ill take a course where someone tells me how to apply the laws of power on power off while at high speeds especially if it lowers my insurance costs. Id love to be able to take a course where i can show an instructor the proper way to powerslide a high torque muscle car down an offramp... hahaha... i mean no thats never happened... and we all could use some emergency situation training... how to controll a skid, a fishtail, a spin, a blowout and hell even a suspension failure... who likes the idea of a high speed lisence qualification??? thatd be sweet but the cops wouldnt be able to tell who has it and who doesn't... hmmm new solution deregulate all highways and keep the cops in the city limits which would mean less cops so lower budgets less tickets required i get where im going faster and life will be sweet... and any one who kills themselves on the roads deserved it... i dont think you should be able to endanger others who only want to do 120though i think you should slow down when passing them so they dont get blown off the roads... anyone not comfortable with it can take a bus! I think i should be elected canadas minister of transport no? ill fix all these problems for you...

3,845

I agree with you and i know that section of highway you are talking about - i'm always going back and forth through there - that's actually where i had my car impounded for doing way too much over the limit. I've spent time in europe, my parents lived in france for a few years and thier driving test is BRUTAL. it took my dad 3 tries (they dock you for skipping gears when down shifting or up shifting!) I think the speed limit should be at leat 140km/h - the highways are designed for it, but then there should be no going over that under any circumstances. That's how it is in Spain (spent a lot of time there too). The worst part is the FOB's here teaching other FOB's how to drive - you see them all the time on 16th ave.... horrible horrible!!! anyway... think you can fight it, most of the time if you show up they take the points off and just leave the fine or vise versa... it's up to you if you want to go spend all day in traffic court for it....

2,735

i called the POINTS traffic offenses guys and they are familiar with the officer who ticketed me hees notoriously very tight assed and they are looking into it for me... im suprised how good they were on the phone took name number circumstances around the incident and everything... i dunno i mean i started looking into a lot of traffic stops and in that spot people have gotten off before due to the hill there... it feels like your going uphill leading up to it but thats all downhill too... so i dunno im hoping i can at least get the points taken off... and maybe get the ticket reduced... im sure it wont go away all together...

1,935

They changed the laws so it's alot harder to make a ticket dissapear these days... Just remember, if you go to fight it yourself... when the judge asks if the officer can read his notebook, request that you read it first... I could so have beaten my ticket... the officer said I was driving a Green station Wagon, when if fact it was a teal, 2-dr hatchback... Could have nailed it down right there... but it was my first time... lol

3,910

Please know that I'll lose sleep over the opinion of a perpetual LIAR that got called on some half assed intel he posted....NOT!

3,910

You know Chris, I've always given respect to everyone until they did something either out of line or plain dumb. That jackass did both and he fired the 1st insult not I. Furthermore, he has posted one after another inconsisentency about the military. And if any of the assignments he claims to have served in, which is doubtful he actually did serve, by military standards, he's a WEENIE! If you wanted to be netural, fine...be netural. But don't attack me because I called him on his bullshit. Specifically, you responded to me instead of him as the antagonizer. I don't always agree with your postings but I respect you enough not to insult any of them or you and when you post something exceptional, I compliment it. I'm not the troublemaker. I really think your posting was far from netural.

3,910

Adam, both you and Chris earned my respect many, many postings ago. I have no beef with either of you. My sole regret about that idiot liar Nathaniel is that I'm too far away to turn him across my knee and give him a spanking. He doesn't justify the respect of a stand up fight.

seriously? "...air conditoned ship watching cable ..." why dont you tell that to the guys over at NSW group one who have one eye and almost had there legs blown off.....or to the buddies of Sailors who died in Afghanistan or Iraq. Sir you are totaly ignorant, and if you are a former Army Ranger and a combat veteran why would you be "bragging" about that online? its not impressing anyone. cant we all just keep this about cars and not our Millitary careers.

3,910

Were you born without the ability to read? Your shipmate started this crap. Go hump his leg and get off my jock.

1,935

ha, Sorry if you took that personal Logan... as a point of clarification, I replied to your post rather than his, based on the fact that your post was the latter of the two, and the way this forum splits up the responses when you reply to a specific post, I did that so that my post would appear last in the set. it wasn't directed at you any more than anyone else. It was a formatting issue, not a blatent personal attack ;)

3,845

If you want to, you can also call GTO (Gregory Ticket Office), I know the owner, he's an ex cop who fights traffic tickets, he's really good and has helped me out a couple times. look it up in the book as well.

2,735

lol theres 2 bits to ur post here i laughed at haha.... dont u have a crown vic??? THE COP CAR ??? lol thats hilarious haha... how can a cop miss that??? lol lol lol and honestly for me im done before i start for identification my bumper says MUSTANG GT right on it hahaha... its pretty tough for a cop to miss that while hees staring at my plate from his cruiser... its a pretty recognizable shape... but i might i dunno ill think about it ive got time ...

1,935

no no, this was back some time now when I was Driving an '92 Escort GT (Which is scrawled clearly across the hatch...) I drove 2 different escorts, another crown Vic, an F-250 pickup and a buick Skyhawk before I had the Vicky I've got now. Although, I would love to have a country squier wagon! lol actually I'd love to have that GT escort back... I liked that car... 1.8 5spd manual, power everything (even the seatbelts) it was a good car.
