Junk a car with no title.

Asked by MariaLuluGarza Feb 22, 2020 at 01:59 PM

Question type: General

My son bought an old car that broke down before he got to register it in his name. The car has been parked in his parking in the apartment complex where he lives for 4 years and there is evidence that some homeless person has been sleeping in it.  The Manager has also asked him to get rid of the car but my son can't find the original pink slip and the guy that sold him the car moved to who knows where.  How can he get rid of this junk car and remove it from the property without the title.  Could he just move it to the street and let the city tow it.  Sounds good but I don't want him or anyone else to get in trouble. So what can he do?

Call around and see if any junk yards will take it. The city might bill your son for towing and impound fees!!!

Do an internet search. There are many junk companies that advertise "no keys, no title, no problem". Abandoning the vehicle is not a good idea. The police can track down the owner using the vehicle identification number (VIN) unless the vehicle is really old, pre 1968. Hope that helps! Jim
