Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car would not start today and had a
mobile mechanic come look at it. He said my
timing chain is broke. I am sick to stomach!!!
This is my only means to get to work. I need
info for lawsuit. I have had troubles since I
bought car. I know it will cost way too much
for me to replace. I pray there is a recall for
this.

Sorry, GM knows about the issue, and there are no recalls.https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-m1_ds798430

Did he do a compression test? I doubt it. A compression test requires the spark plugs be removed and a compression gauge be screwed in the spark plug holes, one by one, while the engine is cranked. That's the only way to determine if the timing chain has jumped or is broken! Have the vehicle towed to a reputable service facility for a proper diagnosis. It will be money well spent. Hope that helps! Jim

He did not Jim. My car would not crank. He only used a gadget that connected to my car. Thank you so much for the advice. I am getting it towed to mechanic Monday. Your answer makes me feel a little better.

You are not going to get anywhere with a lawsuit with an 8 year old car. I would not waste my time or money with lawyers.
