Jeep engine compatibility

It can be made compatible, but a 96 is OBD1, an 07 will be OBD2. There would be numerous other electronic and mechanical changes made over those years as well. To swap these motors would mean swapping out entire drive train and exhaust. You would also not pass an emissions test (for states that use them) with that older motor.
