My car will not turnover.

Ok so I've had this car for a few years and it
started having this issue where it would kind of
turnover but wouldn't want to start everytime. So i
read somewhere online that if you smack the
starter it'll start up. So for awhile i was doing that
and it would work. I'd hit it once and it'd start up.
Then as i kept doing it id have to smack the starter
a few times and it'd start. The more i drove it the
more I'd have to hit it. Eventually i barely got it to
start. I had parked it for awhile after that and
recently got myself a new starter and i installed it
and nothing. No turnover at all. I also forgot to
mention the first thing i did was replace the ignition
switch, hoping that would fix the issue. And still
nothing. Please anything you could tell me would
help. The dash still lights up the headlights turn on.
It just wont turnover.
