Ran out of oil

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2012 5.3 4x4 ran out of oil because the oil filter
was loose and truck shut down without making any
noise. Added oil but won’t crank. Is the engine
seized or does the computer need to be reset

I would say the engine is cooked. Have a mechanic check it out, they can tell you for sure.

pull the plugs and turn the engine by had with a socket at the harmonic ballancer to see if it is seized .

Not necessarily F-O-R it all depends on the oil on the parts and if lubricated prior to shut down . If nothing was heard (no noise) you may not have cooked the engine or damaged it beyond usable. First things first and never assume anything. If you have only 5 lbs of oil pressure the system is lubricated. Proceed to see if it is seized. If so okay it is cooked. If not seized proceed with other aspects related to start and run.
