2010 Sierra won’t start

Asked by Terony Oct 08, 2019 at 08:21 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was ordering food in the drive thru and turned off
the radio to order. When I tried to turn it back on it
wouldn’t power up. Then I noticed my abs, seat
belt, traction control, 4x4 service lights were on.
Then I saw my gas gauge wasn’t working along
with the oil pressure light. When I got home turned
it off then it was stuck in park. Finally got it out of
park and the truck will not start. Radio still won’t
turn on and the key fob won’t work either so the
alarm is going off. Battery has plenty of charge.
Battery terminals are clean and all my grounds
seem to be in place. I checked the fuses and
couldn’t find one blown. Any ideas?

How do you know the battery has plenty of charge, all the things you mention indicate a weak battery. Jump start the vehicle and drive over to the auto parts store and have then test the battery.

And why you are at the parts store have them charge the battery fully and check you didn't burn up the internal voltage regulator driving the car on a low battery. Never drive a car on a low battery to protect the internal voltage regulator inside the alternator from overheating from putting to high an amperage to over come the dead battery and run the car..

The first thing is the ecm is not reading you FOB. That will have to be reset for anything to work related to starting the truck .

Volt meter...battery is reading over 12 volts. That was the first thing that was checked.

It was pouring rain out so I know the nothing overheated. What’s strange is the radio is completely blacked out won’t play etc but when I press the button for the clock it lights up.

A damn near dead battery will read 12 volts it's not a 6 volt battery. Only a load test will determine a battery needing a charge.

It was the negative battery cable. The only thing we didn’t put a volt meter to.
