wankel rotary engine
What happened to the wankel rotary and why did Mazda abandon it?
It could not be made to meet the newest emissions standards and also didn’t like the Mazda operating system, so the 12A and 13B engines are no more. But they have in the works a small Rotary for a hybrid electric vehicle. That’s all I know right now.
I had a "72 RX3 and can say that they were problematic, gave poor fuel economy, and you couldn't control their pension for polluting. I guess that's why they died a few years ago. But all is not lost. Mazda will bring the rotary back this year paired up with an electric motor to produce a hybrid. Or maybe I just saw that on a cartoon show.
