2008 Mercury mariner
Mercury mariner 2008 suddenly wouldn’t go over
40mph I had the petal to floor. When the car idols
for any amount of time now it will start doing that. I
just got the brakes in the right caliper front,
changed. We thought that was the problem, the
brakes sticking, some say it might need a
transmission flush. There is kind of a horrible noise
on the highway but the tires need to be changed
also or rotated. So it could be that. It’s been
making a little bit of noise when you shift into
gear’s from park to reverse to drive, like grinding
gear noise! WTH is going on?
It very well could be the transmission making the noises and another reason why it won't go over 40mph. Another possibility are clogged catalyst convertors. Is or was the Check engine light on recently? Did you scan for the trouble codes? Maybe it driveshaft or differential related. We would need more details to make an educated guess.
No check engine light was not on ever. Also when the brakes went no brake light warnings were on. We haven’t scanned for codes yet. When the car drives for more than a half hour or idols for more than 10 minutes this is when the problem starts. When you let off the gas pedal it feels like the car is being pulled backwards and it stops instantly and it only moves forward if you push on the pedal. I have to let it sit and “cool off” For about 10 to 15 minutes for it to even stop a little bit. It takes about an hour to cool down the car before it runs normal again. I noticed the wheel Barrings, are on fire hot hot hot when this happens also. The wheel barrings are what I thought was the rims! Lol idk
