2003 montaineer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My mountaineer goes great down
the road but sometimes when I
slow down to turn it dies. No
check engine light comes on. It
starts right back up but then I
have to gas it before it dies again.
It doesn't have this problem
everytime I drive it but it seems to
be more frequent. Any idea what
would cause this would be great.

Dirty throttle body, dirty or defective mass air flow sensor, slow to respond idle speed controller, could be dirty or getting ready to fail, but usually it will show a code.

If it's the engine, and likely so, do as tennisshoes recommends. But you did say that this occurs mostly at turns, and with a sixteen year old car, that could be a defective ignition switch. The switch is just a few electrical contacts that wear with age and when worn they can lose contact on turns and on bumps.
