Lock cylinder replacement failed after reprogramming

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had to replace the ignition switch
cylinder on a 2001 f150 4x4 due to
the key broke off in it. Got the new
cylinder in and had a Locksmith
come  out and program it. The truck
will not start after charging the
battery.  It doesn't even turn over.
The lights on the dash come on but
no matter which way you turn the key
the dash lights won't go off. Any idea
why this is happening?

Same thing happened to me on my 06 f-150 when I had a new transmission put in. The mechanic couldn't get the engine 2 turn over, after 2 weeks of resetting and reprogaming I had 6guy run a couple of wires to the starter ,AND a push button, turn on the key, hit the button and it fire's right up it wasn't right but it was a cheap fix that got my trucks ON the road again. ALL Ford trucks key's have a chip in them, somtimes when you replace something your truck will not recognize your key .AND that's a 300.00 fix. Google it . Hope this helps .Good luck.
