I live in California. If I purchase a car in Chicago will you be able to register it in California?

Question type: General

We are traveling to Chicago and will be looking at a car to possibly purchase.  We would be returning to California driving the car if we purchase it.  Would CarGuru be able to register it in California instead of Illinois?

CG's does not sell cars! Don't buy a 49 state car and try to register it in California!!! The Chicago car is probably a rust bucket anyway.

Cars that are 1975 or older are smog exempt in California.

There has been an effort to move that date up but so far no luck.

No but Jim gave you some good advice. The dealership should be doing the title for you and then you can register it yourself. Refer to the CA DMV website for detailed information.
