Steering wheel spins freeley

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello all. My sister wrecked her 2000 Mazda 626.
The tie rod broke on the driver side. Now the
steering wheel spins freeley without moving tires.
Could the tie rod be the reason it's not controlling
tires or could there be a broken pinion? I'm 7
months pregnant and fixing tie rod with hubby on
Friday just wanting to put feelers out there for
suggestions on where to look.

Thank you @LX30215 yes we will be getting her a new tire as well :) we will probably go ahead and just replace control arms as well. We have to do it all the hard way with our cute little scissor Jack's lol
