Why is the transmission pan plastic? Mine is
melting and leaking.

A plastic transmission pan... Not sure why, but I have just ruled ALL Jeep products off my search list.

Probably need to check to see if you are missing a heat shield or if your catalytic converter is getting too hot. A new pan is less than $50. I agree it shouldn't be plastic but that is a question for the Jeep design engineers.

I would look for a metal aftermarket pan.
